Post Normal Science: exploring collective accountability
MULTI-ACT CSEAR Seminar on PNS
On 6 March, the University of Trento will hold a full day seminar on post-normal science, also accessible through webinar.
The aim of this joint MULTI-ACT/CSEAR Seminar is to engage with post normal science (PNS) approach and discuss about its potential application to different fields of research by bringing together people with different background (accounting, sustainability, brain diseases).
Science needs to consider social demands and concerns through a participatory and democratic process. Furthermore, engaging in responsible research and innovation is an increasingly recognized call of science. Attending to this call, PNS is particularly appropriate as a guiding approach to develop and interconnect research in different fields, such as those the MULTI-ACT project is bringing together.
The PNS approach is based on three core elements: (i) the plurality of perspectives and commitments existing in society, (ii) the scientific management of uncertainty and of research quality, and (iii) the intellectual and social structures reflecting problem-solving activities (Funtowicz and Ravetz, 1994) that will be discussed during the seminar.
Paola Zaratin, coordinator of MULTI-ACT, will take part in the roundtable discussion.
Participation is free but registration is mandatory; please follow this link to complete the registration process by the deadline of 25 February 2019.
